An easy Cache in Emu Plains, park at the end of the old Great western Highway.
With the crossing of the Blue Mountains and the subsequent opening of vast tracks of land west and south, there was an urgent need for a quick, safe and reliable transport. The extension of the railway to Bathurst was felt necessary. In ascending the first range of the Blue Mountains, the Engineer, John Whitton, was compelled to cross the deep ravine of Knapsack Gully. For this he designed a sandstone arched viaduct, 5.5m in width, work was completed in 1865. The viaduct fell into disuse in 1913 when the railway closed and was unused until 1926 when it was taken over by the main Roads and incorporated into the Great Western Highway, it was widened to 9m in 1939.
The cache is about a 10 minute walk on the way to the viaduct (keep your wits about you to find the easy way in) after your find, check out the viaduct, its worth the walk.
The cache is a small plastic container with note pad and pen, with room for small swaps
