Das goldbringende Huhn in Löwitz (nach Otto Bollnow)
Eines Tages ging ein Mann nach Löwitz. Da fand er ein kleines Huhn und nahm es mit nach Hause.Er setzte es auf den Ofen. Jeden Morgen sah er auf dem Ofen nach, doch statt eines Eies lag jeden Tag ein Goldstück dort. Als er so darüber nachdachte, kam ihm in den Sinn, der Böse könne in dem Huhn stecken. Er holte den Pfarrer. Dieser sagte zu ihm: " Nimm das Huhn und trage es dahin, woher du es geholt hast!" Der Mann tat, wie ihm geheißen wurde. Seit dieser Stunde hatte er nun ein Gespenst oder einen Kobold im Haus. Um Ruhe zu haben, zog er in ein anderes Haus.
Kobolde leben am liebsten einzeln in Häusern und sind meistens unsichtbar. Manchmal treten sie als kleine Männchen mit großem Kopf, auf dem eine rote Zipfelmütze sitzt, auf. Zu den Menschen sind sie oft freundlich und tragen Reichtümer für sie zusammen. Wenn ein Kobold jedoch keine Heimstätte hat oder hinausgeworfen werden soll, kann er die Menschen necken und sogar quälen.
Als Wohnungssuchender nimmt er oft die Gestalt eines Tieres an und läßt sich von Menschen mit ins Haus nehmen.
Uns ist zu Ohren gekommen, dass der Kobold, nachdem sein Wohnhaus verfallen war, hier eingezogen ist und sich bisweilen in ein Tier verwandelt, um arglose Wanderer dazu zu bringen, ihn mit nach Hause zu nehmen. Vielleicht findet ihr ja seinen Schatz und könnt ihm etwas klauen, wenn er gerade nicht zu Hause ist. (Vergesst nicht etwas zurückzulegen, nicht dass er böse wird.) Aber solltet ihr ein Tier finden, seid vorsichtig, denn es ist möglich, dass ihr euch einen Kobold mit nach Hause nehmt....
The chicken which laid golden coins
Once upon a time a man went to Löwitz. There he found a small chicken, which he took home. At home he put it upon his oven, where it had a nice warm place to be. Every morning he had a look on the oven, but instead of an egg, he found a golden coin. As he thought about this miracle, he suddenly got the intuition that the chicken could be possessed by something evil. So he asked for the priest to come, which told him to take the chicken back to the place he discovered it.
The man did as the priest said, but since that day, there was some kind of ghost or leprechaun in his house. To get rest of this spooky creature, he moved to a new house.
Leprechauns like to live in a house as the only one of their kind and are invisible most of the time. Sometimes they get visible as small men with big heads, on which they wear red hats. To human beings they often are friendly and collect treasures for them. But if a leprechaun doesn't have a home, or if somebody tries to get rid of him, he starts to torture people.
As a home-seeking creature, he often takes the shape of an animal, so that humans take them home.
As we heard, the leprechaun moved to this place after his old home was destroyed. Sometimes he turns into an animal, so that innocent travellers take him home. Maybe you find his treasure and can steal something when he's not at home. To avoid curses you should leave a small present. But be careful, if you find an animal on your way; you might take home a leprechaun...
