Kirken er en tidstypisk steinkirke fra middelalderen (1150), men
med et langt yngre tårn fra 1800-tallet. Som tilbygg til kirken
utgjør familien Huitfeldts gravkapell et vesentlig element og
vitner om både nasjonal og lokal historie. Huitfeldt-familien hadde
sin adelige setegård på Tronstad, og sjøhelten Iver Huitfeldt er
blant de mange familiemedlemmene som hviler i gravkapellet. På
vestsiden av veien står den høye granittbautaen over Iver Tønnesen
Huitfeldt, som falt i sjøslag mot svenskene i 1710.
The church is a typical stone church from the Middle Ages
(1150), but with a much younger tower from the 1800s. As an annex
to the church is the family burial chapel of the Huitfeldts an
essential element and it witnesses on both national and local
history. The Huitfeldt family had its seat in Tronstad and the hero
Iver Huitfeldt are among the many family members resting in the
burial chapel. On the west side of the road stands the tall granite
monument of Iver Tønnesen Huitfeldt, who fell in battle against
