Geocache Description:

The Fifield Fire Tower is one of the few remaining fire towers in Wisconsin. During the 1930s 38 towers were constructed in the state's national forests, and these were staffed during the main fire-danger season.By the early 1970's the towers were superseded by airplanes used for fire surveillance.

Most of the fire towers have been removed. The Fifield tower, which has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, remains and is maintained by the Forest Service as a historic site. The tower is atop a hill, and stands 100 feet tall, witha small cabin on top for the fire spotter.

Park in the Wintergreen Trailhead parking lot. A 250 yard trail, starting at the far end of the lot, takes you right to the tower.

The cache, a camoflaged pill bottle, is NOT anywhere on the tower. BYOP (Bring your own pen).
