Cathedral Reserve Camping Area is a free camping area located at Mount Wilson in the Blue Mountains.
Mount Wilson offers something for everyone, with large gardens that are open for public inspection, beautiful lookouts, bushwalking, historic buildings and two free camping areas. But what brings us here is the canyoning. Mount Wilson is our home away from home over the warmer months, we love canyoning!
But, this cache is not really about canyoning, nor is it about the free camping. This cache is about a 'Booting'.
Rovers are the most Senior youth section of the Scout Association of Australia. Aged between eighteen and twenty-six, Rovers are specifically dedicated to Service, and often also Adventurous Activities like those on offer around these parts. The Rover Crew that Chip and I are in is without doubt an Adventurous Rover Crew!
Once a Rover turns twenty-six, and before they turn twenty-seven, their fellow Rovers 'Boot' them out of the Crew, to push them along and into their Post-Rover life, hopefully in another role in the Scout Association.
And so it was that one Saturday afternoon in February, slightly before my twenty seventh birthday, I found myself driving here after a fantastic day in my favourite of all canyons, Claustral.
When I arrived I found that to my surprise Chip had summonsed many of the friends I had made over my eight years as a Rover. Many stories were told, many drinks shared, and everyone had their chance to 'Boot' me on my way. The setting seemed fitting seeing as so much of my time is spent in this area sharing my love of canyoning with others.
This cache is placed in memory of my Booting ceremony, my eight years as a Rover, and all of the fantastic memories that I have of these parts. You will need to bring your own pen for this one.
