Geocache Description:

In the Colonial times, stone markers were placed at one mile intervals starting from the State House in Hartford. These markers were there to inform travelers on stagecoach and horseback how far they had traveled and how far it was to the State capitol. Many of these markers are gone, only a few remain.

After reading an article in the Sunday Hartford Courant about old mile markers (especially interesting to us as we had already placed XIV Miles to Hartford cache, which is near an old mile marker in Bristol),we read that there was another stone mile marker located on Route 6 in Plymouth. After driving back and forth on Route 6, we finally spotted the tiny pocket park that it is in. (we have driven past this spot for years and never knew it existed). There is a small parking area in front of the mile marker , on the corner of Route 6 and Bushnell Street. The informational sign that was missing has now been replaced, take time to read the background of why these roads were called turnpikes. Hint is very specific as to not damage any trees. Bring a pen.
