Geocache Description:

The Fort Nelson River crossing on the old SYD has a lot of history. Between the narrow bridge and the steep switch backs, there was an immense dislike for the front end of the road.

**************************************************************************

The Sierra-Yoyo-Desan (SYD) Road provides access to the oil and gas operations east and northeast of Fort Nelson.

Until 2004, the SYD started at Muskwa Heights and utilized a railway bridge to cross the Fort Nelson River. In 2004 the Provincial Government entered into a public-private partnership agreement with Ledcor to upgrade and maintain the SYD. The new route, which starts at the Fort Nelson airport, bypasses the railway bridge and the Clarke Lake area and includes a new bridge over the Fort Nelson River.

To reach this cache you will have to cross the railway bridge on what is now the Clarke Lake Road. Remember as you cross the bridge to YIELD to oncoming traffic, including those with a single headlight!

As you travel across the bridge think about the "wide" loads that have been hauled across it in the past and the minimal clearances on the loads.

The Clarke Lake road connects with the new SYD at km 30 and can be driven as a circuit.
