Geocache Description:

You are looking for a medium sized container (old container for transporting chemicals actually) with log book, pencil and old threepenny bit and a length of Para-cord. Please bring some extra items.

Wanlockhead, the highest village in Scotland and it’s nearby partner Leadhills have been home to lead mining since Roman times apparently. Checkout Wiki and Undiscovered Scotland websites for more information:

You can go panning for gold too. In fact Scottish Crown Jewels were made from gold found in these hills. The gold is apprently some of the purest found in the world. Though I think it might be easier to find our cache though than get rich here.

The miners in the 18th century seemed to have founded one of the oldest subscription libraries in Europe too.

The cache is further down the road past the cemetery (worth a look); if you walk past the cache then you’ll find the workings (with some good industrial archaeology / heritage to look at) for the lead mining industry. You can also trace where the little narrow gauge railways use to go the mines and smelting area.

The cache is also on the route of the Southern Uplands Way:

Enjoy yourself and happy caching.
