Haunted Springs Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located on property that is maintained by the borough and patrolled by the PA Game Commission. It is open to public recreation as well as hunting. Please wear orange during hunting season. Please respect the rules that are posted at the gate at the parking area, including not blocking the gate. This area can be muddy after it rains.

The property is part of Topton Watershed, There are numbered spring houses here and there. You can often hear the water gurgling and bubbling in some of them. There are streams and wet areas throughout these woods, with moss and lichen-covered rocks everywhere. Please do not touch or interfere with any of the springhouses. It is a federal offense to do so. Please stay on the paths.

It is hard to imagine now, but the area was once part of the old Wilson farm. The old farmhouse is now torn down. You may also be greeted by huge turkey vultures who frequent the woods. In fact, strange noises are reported to come from small rocky hollows nearby, especially just before dark and dawn. Believe what you want, and the strange hisses, squeals, clicks and thumps may just be nesting vultures. Or, the woods may be hiding something else more sinister...... When a strange black shape squeezes up among the bare rock outcroppings, then watches you from the dead tree limbs overhead, you'll know. Only the bravest cachers come here to find the cache. Some say there are strange forces at work in this spot, bringing bubbling spring water up from the depths of the earth, and causing GPS signals to bounce erratically in spite of a cloudless sky...All of nature seems ready to chill your soul and prick your flesh. The shiver you feel may just be the fresh breeze picking up....or is it?

Park at N 40 28.831 W 075 42.032...if you dare!
