Your name is Harold Cuthbert and your mission is to identify the
possible infiltration of German spies within our forces. We have
evidence to believe that they have already managed to gain
intelligence on some of our airfields. Forewarned is Forearmed with
any intelligence you can gather on a possible attack. The safety of
this country now rests on your head; your job is to find these
enemy spies. However if in doubt over the persons allegiance to our
fair country then simply ask them...Friend or Foe?
Welcome to Royal Observer Corps Boscobel.
Originally opened during May 1966, this ROC post survived thirty
months before closing in 1968. Majority of the surface features
still remain, however flooding has occurred in the site.
The Royal Observer Corps (ROC) was a defence warning
organisation operating from 1925. It was created to provide a
system for detecting, tracking and reporting aircraft over Britain.
They played a very important part during World War Two with the
Battle of Britain. The end of the Second World War brought with it
the new and terrifying prospect of nuclear war. In Britain the
public would have had a mere four minute warning of the approach of
nuclear missiles and it was the job of the Royal Observer Corps to
warn the public of the impending attack, report the explosions and
plot the path of the deadly nuclear fallout. From 1955 the Corps
operated from 1563 ROC underground monitoring 'posts' about 7-8
miles apart from each other throughout the UK, until they were
disbanded in the early 1990's and now remains in private
farmland.
The cache is placed as close to the remains of the post. Please
be careful with geo-kids and geo-dogs as the cache is placed on a
country lane which comes with the usual issues.
Standing withthe gate at your back, the ROC base is located at
around two o’clock position on working farm land.
Oh and the country prays for the successful completion of your
mission.
Many thanks to the Bolas Heathens for bring around the
'Behind Enemy Lines Series' which sparked this (hopefully)
series.
