The old dairy and stockyards of Dr. John Browne, one of the first settlers in the Lyndoch area, have been turned into a quiet little park, unseen by most people as they whiz on past.
Lyndoch was named and surveyed in 1839, by Colonel William Light, in honour of his friend, Lord Lynedoch. Its population grew quickly, reported as being bigger than Gawler in its early days.
The main township only takes in a handful of the originally surveyed blocks, which cover the whole valley floor, but of particular interest are Sections 567 and 568, which cover the doomed Hoffnungsthal settlement.
Enjoy this picturesque park, which holds a substantial amount of history.
