THE LORING MILITARY HERITAGE CENTER GEOCACHE Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MainePublisher: All geocache placements must have a responsive owner. The cache owner must be able to respond to issues that come up and to submit an "owner maintenance" log to remove the "needs maintenance" icon.

In addition to the "needs maintenance" logs and DNF logs, Goundspeak also uses a Health Score algorithm. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713

In this case, Groundspeak has sent an email to the cache owner with no response. The cache owner did not respond to any of the cachers hoping to find the cache and did not respond to the reviewer note so the cache is now archived.

The cache location is now open for any Geocacher to place a new cache, including the original cache owner.

Geocache Description:

The dedicated volunteers who staff the Loring Military Heritage Center (a non-profit organization) on the former Loring Air Force invite all geocachers to come and visit the Center. The Center is open from Mid-May thru the end of September on Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and on Sundays from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

The geocache is available year around, even when the Center is closed, please be sure to sign the log sheet. Those who choose to come to the cache during the hours the Center is open can enjoy a special treat by taking a tour of the Center – Admission is FREE. The center houses an array of memorabilia reminiscent of the years that Loring was a major Air Force Base.

Loring Air Force Base opened in 1952 and was closed in 1994. Thousands of active duty military men and women assigned to the many Squadrons that made up the 42nd Bombardment Wing, their spouses and children, and the hundreds of civilian employees that made Loring their homes and places of employment passed through the gates of Loring during those 52 years. The volunteers of the Loring Military Heritage Center have converted the old “Base Bank” building into a museum to house as many memories of the valiant efforts that all these people put forth in the completion of their mission to protect the United States of America that they can acquire.

COME HAVE A LOOK!! Remember admission is FREE. Sign the museum's guest book.

NOTE: There's a container of SWAG located inside the museum. Ask one of the museum staff for help finding it.

Congrats to Saint367 for being the FTF!!
