UPDATE (6/30/24): THIS CACHE HAD TO BE MOVED DUE TO A FENCE COMPLETELY SURROUNDING THE TRAIN. COORDS DID NOT CHANGE BUT ONLY MAYBE A NUMBER. IT IS NO LONGER ON THE TRAIN. PLEASE NO CLIMBING ON THE FENCE. IT IS NOW A GREEN NANO.
2/18/16:
PLEASE DO NOT MOVE THIS CACHE - IF YOU CAN'T FIND IT, PLEASE CONTACT US AND WE WILL TRY TO HELP. This is a redo of an old cache that was archived due to it's size and I felt it deserved a new lease on life just because of the location. An important piece of Kansas history, now retired to a city park. Easy access, mowed location.
You will need to bring your own writing instrument. The 477 at the cache location was moved here in 1955. The engine was built in 1901 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works. The engine is one of the 1600 series, the most powerful engines of their day. This engine was originally engine 1697. It was reconfigured into a simple two cylinder engine, renumbered 477 and sent to the plains states as mainline power. On July 4th 1955 this engine made its final run from Junction City to Salina. Three weeks later it was moved from the roundhouse to its retirement here in Kenwood Park. As you can see this is a Micro so if you do not like a small cache you may want to filter this one out, although you would miss out on a nice park and a little history. SIGNING THE LOG IS REQUIRED. IF YOUR SIGNATURE IS NOT ON THE LOG AT OUR CACHE LOCATION, YOUR POST "WILL" BE DELETED. THANKS!
