Geocache Description:

At the time when this was hidden, there were no caches in the Ventura County section of the Cobblestone Mountain Quadrangle, and there is no evidence that ever has been one in there. After we and Let's Fly got done, there were four of them :-) [194/172]

If you don't know what a mallow bush looks like, you will after finding this one. You are looking for a small plastic jar, camo-painted, with a logsheet and pen, and a bit of swag. There is also an unactivated geocoin inside, for FTF, if they want it; if not, it's "trade fairly" swag.

The marsh mallow is a real plant which was used (still is in some areas) as a flavoring and thickener for a honey-based candy that was known in ancient Egypt. The sap has medicinal qualities, and is an herbal treatment for sore throats. The modern marshmallow has very little resemblance to this ancient candy. The mallows along this trail are distant cousins of the marsh mallow.

The terrain rating is for when this road is closed to vehicles; in the Summer, terrain rating drops to 1.5 or so. In the Summer (roughly Memorial Day to Labor Day, this road is open, and the Blue Point campground is usable; at all other times, the campground is closed and the gate is locked just past the last picnic area/boat ramp (see waypoint), so you'll have to hike or bike in.

There is a $10 entry fee to the Lake Piru Recreation Area. If you don't want to pay that, there are other ways in, but they are *very* long walks.

So, did you bring any graham crackers and chocolate bars?

Good luck! Have fun
