Geocache Description:

Come celebrate 10 years of geocaching in Nebraska!

Join us on Saturday, May 1 to look back on 10 great years of geocaching and look forward to many more! Come to eat, swap stories, seek out hints, make new caching friends, and more.

We will gather at Mahoney State Park, just off of I-80 at exit 426. Since the first Saturday in May is also traditionally Kentucky Derby Day, we'll have a little fun before lunch, in the form of the Nebraska Derby -- geocaching style.

Time: 11:30 for Derby contestants
The derby will feature stops around the Mahoney State Park area. One car per team is needed, and you can arrive with your team/carload in place, or join up with others at the starting point and create your own teams. The derby is expected to take around an hour. I will also need a few good non-racing volunteers, too! Contact me if interested in volunteering.

Earn your oats! I will buy lunch for the winning team, so saddle up!

LUNCH: What would a caching event be without food? Meet at the restaurant inside Kiewit Lodge by 1 p.m. to eat and mingle with fellow cachers. No purchase is required to attend; however, the restaurant offers both buffet and regular menu selections until 2 p.m.

Group pictures will be taken at the event. If you have a geocaching t-shirt, please wear it! Geocaching signs and your GPS are also welcome.

PLEASE post a "will attend" if you plan to join us -- it is especially important because I want to give the restaurant a heads-up of the expected number.

Put this cache on your watchlist or check back for updates.

Note: a Nebraska state parks permit is required at Mahoney. Daily or annual permits can be purchased at the entry gate.

UPDATE 4/29/10: The way the Derby is set up, I have room for EIGHT teams to compete. Please be kind and if you are able to cram 5 people in your car and are comfortable volunteering to drive, please plan to do so.

Arrive as early as 11:00 (or shortly after) if you can, so we can sort out the teams. It looks like we are going to have good weather! Wear short sleeves. You might want to wear short sleeves even if the weather is cruddy. Trust me on this one. Just don't ask why.

THINGS TO BRING:
-- Digital camera, if you have one -- preferably one that uses memory cards (rather than camera phones.) I would *dearly* like for each team to have a camera with them while they run the course, and there are some checkpoints where taking pictures can affect your score. I would like to be able to pull the photos onto my computer over lunch. Let's show Groundspeak what mischief Nebraskachers get into.
-- Sunscreen, if you're delicate.
-- A willing attitude. Let's have fun with this!
