Geocache Description:

This cache is a decon container hidden in Cave Hollow Park. The best route to get to it is from the end of the parking lot go downhill to the northwest corner where the trees start, alongside Post Oak Creek. There you should see a mountain bike trail. I promise it's easier to find than the two micros!

Eumeces laticeps is more commonly called the Broad-headed Skink. The males of this species have broadened heads that are often tinged orange. Both females and males are primarily brown with 5 lengthwise stripes that fade with age. Juveniles have more distinct black stripes and a blue tail.
Broad-headed Skinks enjoy moist woodlands with fairly open areas as well as plenty of leaf litter or rock piles. They frequently climb trees to hunt for insects. In Missouri they live primarily south of the Missouri River. Broad-Headed Skinks can also get rather large, with adults capable of reaching just over 12 inches in length.
If you happen to see a skink (or other lizard) while geocaching, it is not recommended that you try to catch it. Many lizard species can drop their tails when threatened. Although this is not outright harmful, it certainly doesn't help them. Best to observe them and leave them be. Pictured lizard was not in Cave Hollow Park.
