Geocache Description:

Wow, an uncached hill! A short walk will have you at the crest and enjoying views to Parliament House, Black Mountain Tower, the Captain Cook Memorial Fountain and Canberra City. Look out for the vulnerable and endangered species as you walk.

Travelling along Gungahlin Drive every day I kept looking over at the Mullanggari Grasslands and wondered whether the suburb of Crace would ever peak up over the hills and consume this lovely grassland.

Fortunately a study conducted by friends of ours from the Canberra municipal services team discovered a number of endangered and vulnerable species when Gungahlin Town Centre was being planned, and as a result Crace will stay on the other side (how sweet that sounds), and the Mullanggari Grasslands have been saved for us all. This includes the: Striped Legless Lizard (Vulnerable), Golden Sun Moth (Endangered) and Perunga Grasshopper (Vulnerable). There are also three Aboriginal stone procurement sites in Mullanggari, one of which I suspect is the site of nearby cache (GCT6MD "Mulanggari").

As you walk up the hill you will be walking through a number of grass varieties, including big patches of Kangaroo Grass. Unfortunately a few weeds (thistles and pattersons curse) are also making their way in.

We suggest parking at S35 11.929 E149 07.547 (end of Bollard Street) as the walk in from here follows the council mowing path around the boundary fence for the majority of the walk. Other than the park entry gate there are no fences or gates to go through.

Enjoy the views from the top. Also nearby is Transfore!mer (GC14XHW), although fences may need to be crossed to connect the two (we did not try).
