This small cache, a camo'd large pill bottle, holds small items, and logbook, and is hid on the lower road (Barnes - West) when you turn off to Whatshan Lake, beside Highway 6. You can easily do this one either on your way to or from the ferry at the Needles.
You will have a peek of the bridge and nearby river from the cache. I believe the signage says it is Whatshan River, but the Backroad Mapbook refers it as Barnes Creek. Confusing hey?
If you take the higher road, you would head to Whatshan Lake which has two BC Rec Sites on its east side and the Whatshan Resort on the west side. There is a Music Festival here in the summer as well.
If you want a place to stop and rest and maybe picnic, there is an area near the river/bridge which has a trail to it about 50m further west down the road from the cache.
The turnoff is about 3km from the ferry at N49 53.577 W118 07.398. If you want, after finding the cache, you can go east on the Barnes Forestry Road as indicated on the sign (or called Whatshan Lake Road in the Mapbook & on Geocaching.com), a good gravel road, which runs parallel about 2 km with Highway 6 almost to the Needles ferry. There is a cache along its way (Route 6 Detour). You could easily drive a trailer along this route as well. If you're on the way to the ferry, keep in mind the ferry schedule below.
DAILY SCHEDULE: Every half hour from Needles 5:15 am - 9:45 pm
Note: If anyone can clear up the name of this parallel road (or the river/creek) please advise the owner so I can make it a little less confusing.
