Two Sycamores share a Piney mound with a nice view from the Northwest corner of Wingfield Pines. Coordinates for parking area.
From this vantage point view lovely meadows, wetland and nearby stream and witness the removal of the last ore to come from the mine below. This ore (Fe2O3) which long sullied the nearby creek will now be collected and used for making things various shades of red.
Cache is on Allegheny Land Trust's Wingfield Pines Conservation Area (formerly Wingfield Pines Golf and Swim Club). The property is open dawn to dusk.
To find the cache, you can park at the entrance located on Boyce Mayview Road just across from the entrance to the USC recreational complex.
There's a 15 degree slope into and out of the property, but the rest of the terrain is pretty flat. You'll walk approximately 1 mile there and back if you don't get sidetracked by the beauty of the place.
Have fun and please enjoy the area. There are paths and "trails" all the way to the cache. Please stick to them to keep the wild areas wild. Keep any dogs on-leash. As always, CITO what you can and be respectful to the plants and animals.
This is the first cache that I've hidden. I hope you like it and your visit to Wingfield Pines. Feedback welcome!
