I came across this rather ominous place one day last summer while out caching with my pal Butterflyguy. He mentioned that someone should put something here so all could see this, and, as per the by-laws and guidelines of my procrastinator membership, I finally got around to it!
This is an "R" rated cache, so think of your squeemish and little ones when visiting the Tunnel of Love.
Once arriving at stage 1 you will need to come up with some numbers to replace the letters in the following coords:
N42 31.77A W078 01.8BC
As you stroll through the Tunnel Of Love, try to keep your emotions in check and keep a sharp eye out for the following info: For "A", use the second number of the day Jimmy showed up. For "B", use the second number of the year Red was here. For "C", use the month that Steve-O attended (-1).
So! The cache is nearby. Do you have the courage to hang around long enough to find it? Can be night cached by the bravehearts! The container is large enough for trinkets or small coins, but BYOP. There is a "Lucky" deuce for the FTF.
Good luck (seriously) and thanks for stopping by.
Many thanks to Blue_stone for providing the following history about this unique place:
Now the history: the present incarnation of the tunnel was constructed in 1908. The railroad that passed over the tunnel was mostly known throughout its life as the River Line of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. The northern end started just west of Hunt, NY, as a branch off the still running Norfolk Southern Buffalo-Binghampton Line that runs thru Letchworth over the famous trestle. Also, just a mile or two south of the tunnel, in 1929, there was a great train wreck, due to the whole railroad bed collapsing. There are several DEEP ravines in the area, where they had to fill MANY tons of earth for the railroad to cross. At least one of these crossings slid out, due to underlying quicksand. IIRC, luckily it was a freight train, and I dont think there were any deaths. I think they closed the line down in the mid/late 60's, due to maintenance issues. (Paleoman would be the guy to ask about this
) There are sections that have subsided as much as 15'-20' FT now.
FTF: Congratulations to Paleoman52, Easygoer226 and EZRider76 for being the first through the Tunnel of Love. You should be okay in a couple of days.
