Motorhomes at Lake Maraetai
Lake Maraetai is one of several artificial lakes formed as part of a hydroelectricity scheme on the Waikato River. The small town of Mangakino lies on the western shores of this beautiful majestic lake, which is bordered by exotic forests and farmland. The landscape gently slopes down to the lake making this an inviting vista to venture through Mangakino, in order to experience the water and lake shores. It is a relatively small lake but is known to be 75m deep in places with a powerhouse at its northern end generating 360MW of power.
As we have said above, the Lake is extremely popular for water water sports and there is an annual power boat regatta held every January. The lake is also a favourite for fishing with local anglers in the Mangakino district. Fisherman can often be seen trolling or casting from a drifing boat. Boat access to this lake is available from this domain.
The cache is a 200 ml sistema in a camo bag. It is placed away from the most popular areas so you should be able to find it even on the busiest of days. It is approx 1 metre into the scrub from the mown area. We've attempted to find a spot clear of blackberry, but please search carefully none-the-less. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN.
