This cache is a small lock-n-lock container with enough room for small trade items. BYOP. Just past the Curry house on the left side of the road is a trail in the woods. Cross over the gasline right-of-way. Cache is 100 feet into the woods.
Along the back roads of southern Upshur County is a little community known as, “Brooks Hill”. Like many communities in West Virginia, Brooks Hill boasts of good neighbors that know the value of hard work and a simple lifestyle. One former resident and local educator, James William Curry, left a legacy for the community where he was born and raised. Funded entirely and on land donated by Mr. Curry, (along with 30,000 books from his personal collection) a library and park facility was constructed in 1980.
Mr. Curry’s dream was for Brooks Hill to have a place where the local residents, especially the youth, could gather and have access to library resources and could further their education. The oversight of the James W. Curry Library and Park Facility was given to the Upshur County Commission. Upon Mr. Curry’s death in 1997, the bulk of his estate was placed in a revenue generating trust fund that would provide care and upkeep of the library and park facility for years to come. Services offered at the James W. Curry Library include: book lending, audio book lending, computer and internet access, music CD lending, notary public, copy and fax services and movie rental. Various educational activities as well as outdoor movie nights and storytelling are planned throughout the summer months.
Containing 222 acres, the James W. Curry Park facility consists of eighteen semi-primitive style camping sites, three pavilion style shelters, rustic picnic sites with tables and grills, pit style toilet facilities, two playground areas, two ponds, the homestead of James Curry and plenty of parking.
