10 Years - Fells Point, MD Community Celebration Event

This cache has been archived.

lpyankeefan: Time to put this 10th Anniversary Lost and Found Event Cache to rest. Many thanks to those who took time out after a VERY busy day to come to historic Fells Point, MD to share in the anniversary fun! [:D] The venue was GREAT, the food just as good and we even got to have fun watching some of you search for the nearby "Murder, He Wrote" geocache across the street.

Final page edits have been performed, FTF honors bestowed and all travel bugs or geocoins moved along or otherwise accounted for. I have the eidelwess geocoin in my possession and will be moving it along soon. Hope to do this again when the opportunity presents itself. Happy 10th Annivesary Geocaching!!! [:D][:)][^]

Geocache Description:

May 1, 2000 - an announcement was made that Selective Availability would be lifted.

May 2, 2000 - at approximately midnight, EST Selective Availability lifted and the accuracy of GPS technology was greatly improved.

May 3, 2000 - Dave Ulmer hid a black bucket at N 45Β° 17.460 W 122Β° 24.800, filled with videos, books, software, and a slingshot as well as a logbook and pencil. He called it the First GPS Stash. He shared the waypoint of his "stash" with the online community on sci.geo.satellite-nav.

Within three days two different people read about his stash on the Internet, used their own GPS receivers to find the container and shared their experiences online. The sport of geocaching was born!

  • Each person attending will be responsible for any costs incurred for food and drinks.
