Geocache Description:

educational value - I didn't even know these existed till I was taken to one via caching

A Wikipedia definition of MISFIT STREAM

A misfit stream (or underfit stream) is a stream that is far too small to have eroded the valley which the stream occupies. The shape of the valley may also be inconsistent with a typical valley that has been eroded by water. Generally it is reasonable to expect a valley to be in proportion with the stream that occupies it. When a period of glaciation modifies the landscape by creating glacial troughs the rivers that occupy such valleys after the ice has retreated are not in proportion with the size of the valley. Given the scale of most glacial troughs almost all of them contain misfit streams.

This location is close to where I live and until I saw one of these formations in southern Alberta during a caching week-end, I didn't know what they were or that they existed. When I came home along the 619 highway and saw this one, I felt I had to share this with the cachers in this area. These formations may be common but until you look at them with some background information of how they were formed, they don't mean anything or register what they actually are. Spring is a beautiful time to see it - after everything has turned green but before the stream gets hidden by the weeds, bulrushes and other growth that has a tendency to hide the stream banks.

To log this cache;

#1 email me the approximate width of the river/stream (do not post with your log)
#2 email me an estimate the approximate distance of the valley at its widest point seen from the bottom of the valley (do not post with your log)
#3 post a picture of you and your GPSr with your log if possible

***Bonus points to anyone who can give me the name of the stream***

Amusement factor - how many twists and turns can you see that the stream makes within a kilometer of the highway

This cache can be done without leaving the car or road allowance - Please pull off into an approach when stopping - this highway is fairly busy and I would not want to read of a fatality due to caching here
