Geocache Description:

Hill of the Skull (GC1D5) was a nine-year old Geocache placed by San Diego’s pioneer Geocacher Tuna. As of last week, before it was archived, it was the 5th oldest active Geocache in San Diego County. The oldest is Phil Memorial Cache on Mt Laguna (GC5B) . The other three oldest are San Diego Ocean View (Double Peak Summit) (GC140), Mt Israel (GC196), and The Mountain of Moonlit Rocks (GC1CB), all of which were placed by Tuna.

Couldn’t let this historic cache pass without a tribute so here it its:

IHO Tuna: Hill of the Skull Part Deux

Parking is available during daylight hours at Oak Riparian Park on Lake Blvd. Take the trail leading from the park west until you reach the monster trail that leads up the hill south towards the cache. See my waypoint for the slightly overgrown side trail leading off towards the cache.

Wear good shoes and, on a warm day, bring a hat and water. When it was first placed Hill of the Skull was the only cache in Calavera Hills. Today there are over 100 caches available in the Calavera Trails system.

Please practice good Geocaching etiquette. Hide the cache well even if you found it exposed. Remove any debris (leaves, twigs etc) you find in the cache. If you trade please leave something of equal or greater value for the next finder. Please do not leave any religious or political trade items. Geocaching is supposed to be a light, fun activity, not a platform for an agenda. Do not leave any food or anything else an animal might sniff out (soap, scented candles, etc). HAVE FUN!
