This is another in the Josh’s “Geek Cache” series. In February of 2009 Josh presented his Infrared Cache (GC1MP8K). This cache features the other end of the spectrum; Ultraviolet (UV).

Ultra Violet Light
Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than x-rays, in the range 10 nm to 400 nm. It is so named because the spectrum consists of electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than those that humans identify as the color violet. One of the properties of UV light, sometimes called “black light” is that it will make some materials flourless.
Fluorescence
Fluorescence is the emission of electromagnetic radiation light by a substance that has absorbed radiation of a different wavelength. In most cases, absorption of light of a certain wavelength induces the emission of light with a longer wavelength. The most striking examples of this phenomenon occur when the absorbed photon is in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, and is thus invisible, and the emitted light is in the visible region. One fun application of this principle is invisible ink. Certain fluorescent material can be dissolved in a solvent and used as an ink. When the solvent evaporates it can’t be seen in visible light. It will however, show up very clearly under ultraviolet light.
Finding the coordinates of the final stage.
The coordinates of the final stage are written in invisible ink on an object in a small waterproof container at stage 1. Using a UV Flashlight one can read the message. Information about UV Flashlights may be found HERE.
When returning the object to the waterproof container please make sure you don't cross thread the cap and tighten it snugly but do not over tighten it.
Both stages are within 100 feet of mowed grass trails.
