Te Waimate Mission (Northland) Traditional Cache
Just Floundering: 9.10am. Decided to archive and leave the site for someone else to use. Cache has had a five year life and probably run its course.

A straightforward cache suitable for the whole family near one of New Zealand's most historic sites.
The cache is a 500ml plastic cylinder painted in camo colours. It has log book and pencil and smaller trades.
This cache provides an opportunity to visit some of New Zealand's most historic sites being the Waimate North Mission Station, the Church of St John the Baptist, the Sunday School and the adjacant cemetery - all set in beautiful park like surroundings.
Te Waimate Mission was built in 1832 on behalf of the Church Missionary Society by Rev. Samuel Marsden and is the second oldest surviving building in the country. The nearby church was built in 1871 replacing two earlier churches built in 1831 and 1839. Here the first European marriage in New Zealand was conducted. Graves of British soldiers killed in the Battle of Ohaewai in 1845 are in the cemetery.
There was also a flour mill on site from the mid 1830's and a subsequent mill built in 1851. No ruins remain however - only a plaque which is near the cache.
Take the opportunity to visit these historic sites while here. The Mission Station is under the control of the Historic Places Trust and open daily. The Church is usually unlocked and the grounds including the cemetery available for access at all times.
