Geocache Description:

The cache was relocated on 09/03/16 away from the ruins. This was done to reduce the risk of injury to anyone searching for the cache and moving around ruins. PLEASE replace as you find it, I have tried to make it look natural with some organic camouflage.

After putting down “Bila Boya”, the Coasters took a walk in the opposite direction to find rock formations, rocky pools in the river and the ruins of a house never finished.

After some research, a local landholder at the back of the ruins told the story of having a visit some years ago from a elderly gentleman who used to visit regularly a person called Reverend Verne who was a travelling preacher. The preacher was a squatter who was given permission to build the house, but halfway through building the house suffered a heart attack and died. His wife who was frail and infirm could not fend for herself and starved to death before help came. Another local who has lived in the area for many years’ thinks the house was started in the 1930’s. There are more ruins of a humpy in the adjoining private property that the Reverend and his wife used to live in while building the house.

A local group of landholders who call themselves the “Friends of the Bila Boya and King River Reserves” are trying to rid the area of the Sydney Golden Wattle (Acacia longifolia). If you see any saplings while on your walk through these reserves, feel free to help out and pull a sapling or two. The Sydney Golden Wattle is an invasive plant that spreads fast and chokes endemic vegetation.

A place along the river that only the locals know about! The Coasters hope you enjoy this part of the King River. The track can be wet in the winter months. 2WD should be able to head down the short track to the parking area; otherwise parking is on the edge of Warren Road.

BYO writing stick. No swaps in this cache, but room for a trackable or two.

This cache is not designed to be difficult, it is more about the visit to the Billa Boya Reserve and enjoying the walk along the river and appreciating the ruins of a past long ago.
