This cache contains the usual trinketry and is in a .50 cal ammunition can. The route to this cache is very challenging for those afraid to get mud on their shoes. It may be a longer walk than most but it will be an interesting journey.
The Skokie Lagoons are a marshy part of the Cook County Forest Preserve along the Skokie River in Northfield, Illinois. Located within the preserve is an island teeming with wildlife. The area is very isolated and as a result the deer are much less timid than most one encounters in the Chicago area. Although the island is very peaceful now, a Nike antiaircraft missile battery was reported to have been located there in the 1950s.
The Skokie Lagoons are located between Dundee Road and Willow Road just east of the Edens Expressway (I-94). From the expressway, exit at either Dundee or Willow Road and proceed east to Forestway Drive. From there you are on your own.
The cache is also a short distance from the Cook County North Branch Bicycle Trail. Other caches along this twenty mile trail are Harms Woods and North Branch Cache. For a map of this trail, click this link: North Branch Trail Map.
