Feathers are an important part of the goose. The down (finer feathers) keep them warm. Preening with natural oils is a type of waterproofing. The flight feathers are lost during the egg incubation period, so they cannot fly until their eggs hatch after 25-28 days. The snow goose has all white feathers with black wing tips.
