Sunnyside Connector Traditional Cache
Sir Vayor: Thanks for the update, Walkview. This one has been in place for almost six years and I think it is time to archive it. It has had a good run with over 75 finds. I will open up the trail for others to set out a cache there. Thanks to everyone who has found it.

Like my last two caches I found this trail and potential cache location while out on a bike ride. I knew the trail was there but I had never been on it before. It is a good walking/biking trail that goes from Chaster Road south to Sunnyside Road and there is also a woodland Park about half way along the trail.
In this Park and along the trail, there are a number of sitka spruce trees and the cache is hidden on the trail side and at the base of one of them and it would be visible from the trail if it were not for the geo-bark and the geo-branch hiding it. It is within 1 metre of the edge of the trail and can be easily reached from it.
Sitka spruce normally grows in wet swampy-type areas within 30 km of the ocean and at elevations below 300 metres; although some trees have been noted as far east as Hope. The bark is generally thin, loose, crispy scales and the needles are very sharp to the touch. The cones consist of a disorderly array of thin wavy-edged scales and are about 5 cm long. Sitka spruce wood is fairly light and soft and during World War II, sitka spruce from the Queen Charlotte Islands was chosen as the most desirable wood for aircraft construction. These trees were logged by the Aero Timber Company out of their base on Cumshewa Inlet which is about 17 km due south of Alliford Bay on Moresby Island. Alliford Bay is one terminal of the ferry that goes between Moresby Island and Graham Island, the two main islands in the Queen Charlotte Islands, now known as Haida Gwaii.
Parking is available at Frank West Hall on Chaster Road or on Sunnyside Road at the locations noted below. From Frank West Hall, you must go west about 150 metres to what appears to be a driveway to house # 1255. From there, proceed 90 metres south to the start of the actual trail, the location of which is also noted below.
I created this cache and my last two caches so that my new geocaching friend, spinabifidagirl, could easily get to them when she next comes down to our area from Powell River. She can walk short distances but usually does her geocaching in a wheelchair, so please try to consider spinabifidagirl and any others with any type of disability when setting out caches.
As this should be fairly easy to find, I have not included a FTF prize other than the prize of being the first to sign the log book. It is a small lock-n-lock inside a zip-lock bag. There some small trade times and a log and a pencil and a pencil sharpener.
