Heritage Agricultural & Pastoral Show, Bay of Islands Pastoral & Industrial Show 1842 – 2010 History

The Waimate North Show was initially started as an ‘agricultural demonstration” and held in the area on local land until the
first permanent site was established at Grove Cottage Farm.

In 1888 after amalgamation with other shows the first recorded president was Mr M.Clarke and the initial land purchase of the current site was made.

By 1891 the Show Hall( much as it appears today ) was built using voluntary labour and costing eight pounds, one shilling and seven pence.

In 1899 the Bay of Islands Pastoral & Industrial Association was established and their constitution written and published.
Additional land has been acquired by the Association over the years to complete the 3.93 hectare site as owned by the Association today.

The Waimate North Mission house with the spire of St John the Baptist’s Anglican church commemorating the early Mission settlers form a backdrop to this historic and picturesque showground setting.

Ancient stands of Puriri trees flank the boundary.
