Geocache Description:

Mystery-drive-in-Cache for technique-freaks.

This cache is about Lasers and their applications. The cache is not hidden at the header coordinates (but you will find a parking area there). To find the cache you need to answer some questions about Lasers and do some little calculations.

Well, let's start easy:

Question 1: One well-known application of Lasers is to read information from a CD. A friend of mine got his first Discman as a gift when he was 14 years old. I wonder if you know how old he might be today (2010)?

   [  ] More than 42 years old:     A = 231
   [  ] About 40 years old:         A = 300
   [  ] What the hell is a Discman? A = 141

Now take a look to following type plate of a Laser:

Question 2: Is this Laser eye-safe?

   [  ] Yes, of course: B = 31
   [  ] It depends:     B = 56
   [  ] No, not at all: B = 76

Question 3: What is the maximum allowed power of this Laser?

   C = result rounded to full µW

Question 4: As you might know, Lasers can be used to measure distances. What is the distance between a wall and the Laser source if the time between emission of the Laser beam and the detection of the reflected echo is 5.437e-6 s?

   D = result rounded to full meters

Question 5: How big is the footprint of the Laser beam in a Distance of D meters?

   E = spot diameter, round down to full centimeters

Result: Don't worry, the hardest part is done. Now you can calculate the cache coordinates:

   Latitude = N48°39.(A+B+C+E)'
   Longitude = E015°39.D'

You can check your result at GeoChecker. Car park is available at the header coordinates or at the cache location.

Good luck and have fun,
Sunny

P.S. This is my first mystery cache. Although I have calculated everything at least three times there might be errors. So please do not hesitate to contact me in case of troubles. Improvement suggestions are always welcome!
