Children of the Mist multi cache takes you into the Te Urewera National park the largest national park and largest original native forest in the North Island. It also contains the largest surviving population of Kokako.
The name Urewera came from a legend where by one Cheif Mura-kereke, accidently burnt a very personal part of his anatomy.
Tuhoe, the people from this area where often referrred to as "The Children of the Mist"
This multi cache consists of 2 WPs and a final cache.
WP 1 - micro magnetic
WP 2 - micro plastic tube- camo
Final cache - small camo plastic container.
Coordinates are for WP 1 which contains coordinates and clue for WP 2 which contains same for final cache.
For international visitors if you want to know more about the history of this area and the Tuhoe people try the book 'Tuhoe, Children of the Mist' by Elsdon Best 1972.
For anyone who wants to do some walking/tramping while here I suggest Te Pona-A-Pita, Pohatu, Otamatuna Ridge and Otapukawa Stream tracks.
