This old washed out crossing is named after Marcus Lawrence, who was an early owner of V Bar V Ranch.
In 1937, Lawrence’s wife filed for divorce, and according to legend, he began to travel to Prescott weekly to presumably seek forgetfulness in gambling, drinking, and night life. In 1938, he was murdered by a jealous husband. He was covered by two life insurance policies. Upon his death, his mother contributed the proceeds to the community in his memory. With one policy, she had this crossing built at Beaver Creek, called Lawrence’s Crossing by locals.
The site is now a Forest camping area along the creek. The cache is located away from the camp sites.
