This geocache is placed just outside the boundaries of Lava Beds National Monument. The National Park Service does not allow geo-caches within the national monument - I checked. To find the cache start at the Merrill Cave access area and hike the Whitney Butte Trail for 3.3 scenic, rocky, relatively flat miles. The cache is under some rocks on the periphery of the gigantic Callahan Lave Flow.
