Geocache Description:

This cache is one in a series dedicated to amazing & unusual organisms. I am astounded by the amazing diversity of plant and animal life that exists in this world. But the real fascination lies with those organisms that are amazing, unusual and odd.

These organisms have capabilities that we do not share and can barely imagine: extraordinary navigational methods, abilities to regenerate lost limbs, live symbiotically with light-producing bacteria, reproduce asexually, survive in suspended animation, change shape and color at will and much more!

Pygmy Marmoset (Cebuella pygmaea)

Also known as 'Dwarf Monkey', this is one of the smallest primates, and the smallest true monkey, with its body length ranging from 5.5 to 6.3 inches (excluding the tail). Males weigh around 4.9 oz, and females only 4.2 oz. -Wikipedia

The Pygmy Marmoset has a tawny coat, and a ringed tail that can be as long as its body. It feeds on fruit, leaves, insects and sometimes even small reptiles. Its small weight allows it to reach the very highest leaves of a tree, and to exploit the otherwise little-used food sources there. Much of its diet, however, comes from tree sap. Up to two-thirds of its time is spent gouging tree bark to reach the gummy sap. This monkey has specialized incisors for gouging holes in bark.

Aren't they cute??
