Geocache Description:

Be forewarned: This cave is hard to reach, hard to locate and hard to get back out to the main trails.

From the main trail this location looks like Mother Earth took a yawn.

I think the best approach to this cave is to walk on past it while on the top then climb down and work your way back towards the cave. Once inside the cave you can find a place to throw your gear and rest in the cool for a spell while you take in the views.

My GPSr wouldn't get a good lock under all that rock. To locate the cache while facing out of the cave keep to the left side. The hide is simple but the container is well hidden. Please rehide very well.

Getting out of there is another story. You could return the way you came (perhaps the best way) but it will be steep and seem really long. Then again you could do what I did - just head straight for the main trail which is only a few hundred feet ahead. It was so steep heading down to the creek that I had to butt slide part of the way. From there it's only about 400 ft to the main trail - UP a very steep hill filled with lots of poison oak as high as 4ft tall. Plus there was the usual crawling on hands and knees where some heavy bushwhacking took place. Watch out for very loose rocks, snakes, ticks and poison oak. The way you escape is up to you - choose wisely.

Jan 2011: Good news... First...you can reach the cave from the right or left when approached from the top. You still can't see the cave until you are right in front of it so just follow your GPSr. Next... There is a way out from the cave to the main trail that is much easier than returning from the top side. Start down just a bit keeping mostly to your left towards Holm's Place. You'll come out on the main trail near the old apple orchard.

If that's too easy you can still head straight for the main trail right in front of you and enjoy the bushwhacking, PO and a steep climb.
