Geocache Description:


The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular geocache that is part of the Enchanted Mountains GeoTrail (EMGT). This trail is a project of Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning & Tourism and the Enchanted Mountains of Cattaraugus County. It has been developed to encourage visiting cachers and residents to explore the hidden parts of Cattaraugus County as they travel the highways and byways of the Enchanted Mountains. On the inside cover of each cache is a KEYWORD that you will need to record in your log. You can obtain your Town wooden nickel by mailing your log sheet to the department listed on it or by visiting the website at (visit link)

The town of Ashford was formed in 1824, and is 33,204 acres in size. West Valley is the largest hamlet in the town.

Cattaraugus County Forestry #1 is in the township of Ashford. This is where you will find a 2 part cache with a micro to start that will lead you to the ammo can final. Parking is very close to part 1. You can then take a walk along the pond dam. Watch children closely as there are a few partially washed out areas. The area can be very wet and you may have to cross the pond outlet stream.

Watch for fishing muggles. Or bring your rod and join them. We have seen the fish jumping out of the water on one end of the pond while people fished on the other end. We have also seen beaver in the pond.

We found evidence of hunting in the area also, so wear orange during hunting season. The area could use some CITO, so feel free to do some.

With all the pines in the area, cords can be jumpy but that should only add to the fun. There is a FTF and STF prizes. FTF gets to pick which one they want.

Update 5/15/13: The EMGT will be ending Oct. 31,2013. Since several of the caches have been archived, to obtain the coin, cachers will only need to submit keywords for the currently active caches,until the ending date.
