The Black Wood of
Rannoch is one of the last remnants of the vast Caledonian Forest.
It is also now a Special Area of Conservation, protected for the
many special plants and animals that live there. Careful visitors
will see deer and red squirrels. Still as church mice ones, towards
the end of the day, may even see pine marten.

The stone carvings on the ends of several bridges represent some of
the iconic flora and fauna associated with these walks.

Symbolic for those of us whose goals in life are always tantalising
close, but forever unobtainable, is the otter. He sees the trout .
