We are looking forward in a few weeks to the very special birthday of a very special young man -- a grandson. On this auspicious occasion one should try to wax wise about the important experience of passing from childhood -- only 12 -- to that hugely important phase of life -- the TEENS!

We will start him off with a few observations -- and a few words to OUR DAUGHTER the mother of a teen-aged boy. We encourage you to include a few more words of advice as you log this cache!

To Mom and Dad:

The young always have the same problem -- how to rebel and conform at the same time. They have now solved this by defying their parents and copying one another....

Mother Nature is providential. She gives us twelve years to develop a love for our children before turning them into teenagers...

Adolescence is a period of rapid changes. Between the ages of 12 and 17, for example, a parent ages as much as 20 years...

Small children disturb your sleep; big children your life.

To the New Thirteen-Year-Old:

Your parents are somewhat more cool than you think they are. They are somewhat less cool than they think they are...
