Geocache Description:

Calgary Parks 100 Project - Calgary Area Cachers teaming up with The City of Calgary Parks

How the West LRT Project  construction affects Shaw Millennium Park:

  • The west bowl in Shaw Millennium Park will be closed due to West LRT construction starting Monday, April 12, 2010. Please respect the closure and do not attempt to access the closed area as it is not safe for the public to enter a construction zone, even if there is no construction activity in progress. The area will re-open when it is safe to do so.
  • The north portion of the park is closed. The park is only accessible via entrances on 9 Avenue S.W. and on 14 Street S.W.
  • Tree are required to be removed. Those that could be relocated were moved to the Shaganappi Golf Course. For every tree that had to be permanently removed, two trees will be planted in it's place after construction is complete.
  • The beach volleyball courts have been temporarily closed to accommodate a parking lot that replaces the previous parking lot between Mewata Armouries and the TELUS World of Science. The volleyball courts have been moved to the park west of Pumphouse Theatre.

Shaw Millennium Park was established in 2000 and is the largest skate park in North America for skateboards and in-line skating. It was designed as a family activity park and Special Event venue. The park is open 24 hours a day and is free.

Park Features:

From SBC Skateboard Magazine "It's not hard to describe what the park consists of. In fact, it's rather easy. It's got everything....a beginner street course with small ledges, flatbars, stairs & a few trannies, as well as an intermediate course with bigger ledges, bigger transitions, & some rails down stairs & banks. When you've got those areas wired, move on to the advanced course: a cloverleaf bowl, a street course, a soon-to-be-built snake run &, le piéce de résistance, the giant fullpipe. Millennium Park caters to all tastes & ability levels. There's no way you'll be disappointed."

Celebrating Calgary Parks 100th Anniversary!

The Calgary Parks 100 Project is a partnership between The City of Calgary Parks, and the Calgary Area Cachers to celebrate Calgary Parks 100th anniversary. Calgary Parks has supplied cache containers and swag for 100 caches, and then we have placed these 100 caches in 100 parks around Calgary. These caches have some cool swag and trackables when placed, so make sure to find them as soon as they are published.
