Geocache Description:

This is the second of a number of caches to be soon published designed to highlight the little-known Old Mills Trail. This cache is in an area the beavers clearly used to inhabit. It is a pretty cool spot for kids to see how beavers affected the immediate area.
The Old Mills Trail winds along next to the Rivanna River across the river from the much more extensively used Riverside Trail. Albemarle County owns and administers the trail, and hopes to one day link the Old Mills and Riverside Trails through construction of a pedestrian bridge near Riverside Park that would connect the City of Charlottesville with the new Martha Jefferson Hospital grounds.
This trail starts at Darden Towe Park and heads south along the eastern bank of the Rivanna River under the Free Bridge (U.S. 250). The trail’s northern sections have a crushed limestone bed, and it becomes a dirt trail to the south. The county hopes to eventually extend the Old Mills Trail all the way to Milton Road, thanks in part to a land donation by State Farm Insurance.
Parts of this trail have been nicely improved through the use of bridges and a boardwalk. In other areas, erosion along the river bank means that the trail winds perilously close to the edge of the river, ten feet below. If walking this trail with young children, be sure to keep them near you.
This cache is a little over a mile walk south from the Free Bridge. Trail access is the same as the nearby Old Mills Trail Micro.
This cache is a cammoed Mentos container containing only a log.
Please re-hide the container for others to find after you are done. Bring a pen to gain credit for this find.
