This cache is located by Llyn y Wrach, a small lake due south of the Maen Esgob summit and is easy to access from the North Wales path.
Suggested car parking for this cache is the National Park Car Park [SH 755 769] near sychnant pass / Gwern Engen and the Pensychnant wildlife centre.
Llyn y Wrach (Lake of the witch), we have not been able to find out much about this lake other than it does not appear to have any streams feeding into it and the word wrach is probably a corruption of the word Gyrach – the stream at the bottom of the valley – gyrach meaning marsh or bog.
The cache, a 1.3 litre lock and lock container, is placed on the south side of the valley slightly up the bank, on the opposite side to the main track that runs along side the lake.
It is worth following the footpath to the summit of Maen Esgob and enjoying the fine views from the cairn. Maen Esgob - The Rock of the Bishop, refers to the Bishop of Bangor to whom this ridge once belonged. It used to have its own trig pillar.
Many thanks must go to the National Park warden for granting permission to place the cache here.
Congratulations to 'andycop' for been first to find.
