First Holler
Information on Freeport Brick seems to be very hard to come by so please if you have information and would like to share, please contact us at president@butlerfreeporttrail.org
Freeport Brick was the longest customer of the Butler Branch of the Western Pennsylvania Railroad, hauling bricks to Pittsburgh. The Freeport Brick building serves another purpose now.
Not far from this cache on the left heading north you will see what some locals call First Holler, about two years ago, I got an e-mail from a family that wanted to put a memorial bench here (two benches near a small creek run-off). They said the conductor would yell “All Aboard” from here.
A little ways up, again on the left heading north, are remnants of foundations. They peek out of the ground and when the leaves are full you can barely see them. I often wonder, did the workers of Freeport Brick live here? Are they made out of Freeport Bricks? What was this tiny little village like? Who lived here? There is a rock lined trough, what was its purpose? Take your time and look at these sites from a distance (this is private property so please don’t go exploring).
