Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Harriman State Park.

The cache is an ammo can located just off the Suffern-Bear Mtn (Yellow) trail.

Suggested Parking is at Kakiat County Park (open 8:00AM to Sunset). Alternately, the SBM (Yellow) Trailhead is right off of Route 59, however you may not be able to find legal parking close by. Do not park illegally - there are private lots nearby that will tow your car. This way would be slightly less mileage, but with tougher terrain.

You do not want to look for this geocache:
  • It's a long hike (1 mile between caches), some will say with no scenery of note (My round-trip hike from Kakiat to SBM1 was 8.9 miles, yours could easily be longer or possibly slightly shorter).
  • The hike includes some tough & steep areas to climb. (note: 4 star terrain)
  • Parts of the trail are not so well marked
  • When hiding the caches, there were several points along the hike where I thought to myself, "well, this looks like a place where i could be mauled by a bear and never heard from again"
  • It's a one-way trail - no good loop hike.

You do want to look for this geocache:
  • Any hike is a good hike
  • It's a part of the park you have not explored.
  • Unfound caches in Harriman / Close to home will drive you insane
  • You're not a wuss like wjgrun

Remember that these connected parks are home to all sorts of wildlife, please be observant & cautious. I have run across black bear, snakes, deer, and lots of TICKS here (amongst many others).
