Krakedouw blockhouse Traditional Cache

Krakedouw pass is situated in the Cederberg between Dwarsrivier North and Heuningvlei.
The pass was previously used to transport goods over the Cederberg mountains by donkey. During the Boer war the Boer also used the pass to gain access to the Cape Colony. The British built this blockhouse on a ridge with view up Krakedouw pass in order to protect this access route to the Cape Colony.
The cache is placed close to the blockhouse which is at the start of the hiking route up Krakedouw. Below the blockhouse is a large overhang where hikers doing the Krakedouw hiking trail would traditionally spend their first night before starting the pass. The vegetation along the trail is lush with plenty of water. Many Breede River Yellowwood trees are found in this valley and it is well worth a visit.
The cache is in the Cederberg Wilderness area and can be reached from Dwarsrivier farm as a day hike.
The cache is hidden in a crevice covered by several smaller rocks.
