This cache celebrates 3 events. TAOG stands for "Tenth Anniversary of Geocaching." It also celebrates our city's pride and joy, the "Gilroy Garlic Festival." It also celebrates my first find, "Gilroy Garlic" by Pedalman. This is an easy cache in a wooded area close to the site of Gilroy Garlic Festival.
On May 3, 2000, ten years ago today, Dave Ulmer placed the first "stash" and started what has become the activity we all love, Geocaching. This cache is placed to honor 10 years of geocaching and the fun it has provided. This year we will hold the 32 annual Gilroy Garlic Festival very near the cache site. The festival was founded in 1979 by Dr. Rudy Melone, Don Christopher, and Val Filice, and has been a fundraiser for local charities, raising a total of about seven and a half million dollars for assorted causes. Individual groups and charities also run booths at the festival, raising additional funds for their causes. The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association is a non-profit organization intended to support non-profit groups and projects in Gilroy. This cache is placed to honor the Gilroy Garlic Festival. I started geocaching on January 24, 2004. The first cache I found was with my wife and daughters at the site of the Gilroy Garlic Festival. It was GC72A0 "Gilroy Garlic" by Pedalman. I am a pedalman too so it was appropriate. The cache has been archived for many years but is remembered here! This cache celebrates my first find and many years of geo fun! UPDATE: 6/21/19 The cache was missing and has been replaced nearby. Please note the cache is now a micro and trade and travel bugs will not fit in the new cache. Please bring a pen to sign the log. Enjoy!
