The Atlantic Blue Marlin is
one of the largest and fastest fish in the ocean, spending most of
it's life far out at sea. They use their spears to slice through
dense schools of fish returning back to eat the wounded at their
leisure.
They are also highly migratory, and will follow warm ocean currents
for hundreds and even thousands of miles.
The biggest females are more than four times as heavy as the
biggest males; the males living around 18 years while the females
live up to 27.
Known for putting up a tremendous fight when hooked, these
energetic fish are considered the holy grail for sport
fishers.
Striped Bass get their name
from the seven or eight dark, continuous stripes along the side of
its body. Striped Bass Fishing is the fastest growing segment in
fresh water sport fishing.
Striped Bass helped build this nation. They enabled the Pilgrims in
the Massachusetts Bay Colony to survive their first winters and to
grow their first crops by giving themselves up for food and
fertilizer. In 1614 Captain Smith wrote in his journal "a most
sweet and wholesome fish as ever I did eat . . . altogether as good
as our fresh Sammon.... Our Fishers take many hundreds together ...
yea, their Netts ordinarily take more than they are able to hall to
Land".
