Uki Butter Factory Traditional Cache
petan: I thought I had archived this cache... obviously not.
Its a pity that the flying fox remanets have gone, it made for a great GZ. There are now some other caches in the area to entice people to visit the town. Perhaps someone else will find a new GZ to commemorate the old butter factory.
Thanks to everyone who visited the town and found this cache. I have always enjoyed reading your logs.

Welcome to historic Uki villiage.
Central to the village is the Old Norco butter factory, built a century ago in 1910 and renovated in 1938. At its peak, the Buttery produced 1420 pounds of butter per day from cream produced at nearby dairy farms. Originally, the cream was usually placed in a Cream box down at the front of the farm along the main road and collected by the cream carrier; this was a horse and dray, which delivered the cream to the factory. In other areas where there were no roads, cream was transported along creeks and rivers in the Cream Launch.
The butter factory closed in 1946 and was left derelict until locals revitalised it 40 years later turning it into local business hub, supporting a variety of eclectic businesses. If you haven't had lunch, try a pie from Uki pies (their vegie satay pie is delicious,. Don't forget to check out the 1930’s teak butter churn at the front of the building and an old winch at the back.
The cache is in the bushland area adjacent to the creek at the rear of the building. Please don't bush bash, there is a pathway down to the cache location, although it is quite rough and steep. Follow the roadway until you see the start of the old flying fox remanent then follow the wire. We strongly advise that the cache be completed in daylight hours and young children be watched closely near ground zero due to the nature of the immediate area.
** PLEASE REHIDE WELL! **
This cache as been muggled on several occasions. I believe its the work of local children, not irresponsible cachers, but if the container remains well hidden, then this cache might be around for longer.
